These are instruments I've either
owned or have passed through my hands at some point. Most plucked
string instruments before 1800 had some kind of intricate soundhole
decoration, usually called a rosette. As they are quite beautiful
and people are always curious about them, I thought I would feature
rosettes in the photos. All of these lutes and early guitars are
much lighter in weight than the modern guitar, and have a more delicate
and transparent tone.
